Our Mission is to Reach the Lost at any cost and to tell EVERYBODY about Jesus!
In May of 1955, Mount Zion Church of Christ Holiness was started by the late Elder Morris Robinson and Deacon William Goodloe. They started out with only a few faithful members in a small storefront church located at Groesbeck and Fernwood in Toledo. The site where the original church stood is now a vacant lot.
The first pastor appointed to Mount Zion was the late Elder Joseph Criss Sr, and shortly afterwards the late Elder Morris Robinson, co-founder, became pastor.
In the early 70’s there was a pastoral change and Bishop Bennett Wolf became pastor for a few years.
In 1975 the church moved to Old Airport Highway, in Monclova Township, where the late Elder Joseph Criss Jr became pastor.
Due to the failing health of Elder Joseph Criss Jr, it was decided that Mount Zion Church of Christ Holiness would merge with Berea Church of Christ Holiness of Toledo, Ohio. At the time Berea Church was pastored by Elder Walton Johnson, and when the two churches merged, Elder Johnson became the pastor of Mount Zion Church in the early 80’s.
In the early 90’s there was a pastoral change and the late Elder James Robinson of Cleveland, Ohio became our pastor.
After Elder James Robinson became ill and was no longer able to fulfill the pastorship, Elder Perry Waddell became interim pastor in November of 1997. He was appointed as pastor in July of 1998.
Pastor Waddell was given a vision by the Lord to move the church from Old Airport Highway which was a rural commercially zoned area located on a dead end street. The church experienced almost no growth at this location. The average membership was around ten to twelve members, but the Lord had a plan for Mt. Zion Church.
In 2001 the Lord moved Mt. Zion to 1501 Western in Toledo, Ohio. The move to this location brought with it a new vision and mission to reach out to those who do not know Jesus. Our church vision and mission is, “We Must Reach the Lost At Any Cost and Tell Someone about Jesus”. The theme verse is St. Mark 16:15 “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” The Lord has richly blessed us at this location where the church continues to grow numerically and spiritually.
